International Speakers from East Asia Visit
A great opportunity for those interested in global research is coming to Portland Community College in the form of two international scholars. As part of the Fulbright Scholar Program’s Outreach Lecturing Fund, which aims to enlighten students and faculty about the research they are conducting, PCC will welcome Wanna Prayukvong and Jian Liu, scholars from Thailand and China, respectively, in early May.
Prayukvong will be speaking on Wednesday, May 10th at 11 AM in the Little Theatre of the Sylvania Campus, discussing “A Buddhist Economics Approach to Gender Issues: A Medium Business from Thailand.” Prayukvong, a professor at Mahidol University in Thailand, is currently on leave from Mahidol to be a visiting scholar at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
On Wednesday, May 17th at 6 PM in The Event Center (Building 9) at the Rock Creek campus, Jian Liu of China will be speaking on “The Impacts of Urban-Rural Dual System on Spatial Development: Can Rural China be Regenerated Through Planning?” Liu is a city planner in China, along with being the managing chief editor of the China City Planning Review and a professor of Urban Planning and Design at the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University.
Usha Ramanujam, chair of the Internationalization Steering Committee, the ones who made these seminars possible, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for the PCC community to learn about global research, new ideas and to connect with divergent perspectives.”
