PCC Wins National Climate Award
Portland Community College is the two-year college winner of the 2017 “Climate Leadership Awards.” The award has been given the last eight years by Second Nature and the US Green Building Council.(USGBC) The USGBC is the organization that gives Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) awards.
The award notice stated that Portland Community College has “reduced energy consumption by 65 percent since 2006, and has nine LEED-certified buildings inculding a net zero LEED Platinum center. Also noted were the three solar power installations that generate 700 Kilowatts of power.
The four year college winner was Loyola University of Chicago, and Honorable mention was given to Bristol Community College and Georgia Southern University. There will be an award Luncheon in Boston in November.
