Semana de la Raza Celebrates 10th Anniversary

It’s a week in honor of Latino culture, advocacy and celebration at the college’s Rock Creek Campus

BEAVERTON, Ore. – From April 18-23, Portland Community College is hosting the 10th Annual Semana de la Raza (“Latinx: Communities Transcending Beyond Borders.”).

Semana de la Raza is a week in honor of Latino culture, advocacy and celebration at the college’s Rock Creek Campus (17705 NW Springville Road). The week features free events that are open to the public, including lectures, music, awards and films. It is coordinated by the Rock Creek Multicultural Center.

Highlights include:

Raza Kickoff – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, April 18, Event Center, Building 9. This kickoff event for the 10th Annual Semana de la Raza will involve presentations and workshops on Semana’s history, purpose and journey since its inception.

Trascendencia y cultura through Art – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, April 21, Event Center, Building 9 & Building 5. Join organizers for a series of art exhibits, poetry workshops and performances by young raza from the surrounding community.

Other Semana de la Raza events include a talent show, a Latinx Youth Summit (registration required), fund-raising gala and a production of the Vagina Monologues. For more details and to register, visit www.pcc.edu/semana.
